Senor Hammer Head
cotton/ felt/ buttons
2008

Senor Hammer Head is stubborn. His point of view is always right, he will always be taller than you and he will always be able to fix things faster than you.

But he does have a trace of humility...

Back in the 1970's, he was a fisherman for a stretch, seven odd years or so. He used to go out to sea for two weeks at a time, sometimes even a month...leaving his wife and two daughters behind. But w/out fail...on his return journey home, he'd find himself in the back of a pick up truck clutching his "from the sea" gifts...a small satchel filled to the brim w/ shells, stones and the spiky remnants of sea urchins past. And as he was being thrown to and fro w/ the turn of the road, Senor Hammer Head would envision the stories he would tell his daughters. Stories of pirates and mermaids, mystical moon men and manatees. And when the truck would turn the corner, to the road w/ his house...he'd feel a catch. In his throat, a giant knot of love. And when that door opened, the wind would always catch his wife's hair just so...
